#VenetoinChella

The past week I had the amazing opportunity to attend Coachella weekend 2 but not only did I enjoyed myself at the pool parties and danced like crazy all night. I had the honor to interview the mayor of Coachella and he had some interesting facts about the beloved Coachella Music Festival.

Meet Steven Hernandez the mayor of the wonderful city of Coachella.

How did your career begin?

It all Started when I was 20 years old, I was interning for The Riverside County Board of Supervisors at that time.  I was going to UC Riverside and finishing up my degree in English and Political Science and my typical conversations would end up being about politics and changes that needed to happen in Coachella. I graduated and ran for office, I was 23 years old when I got elected here in the city of Coachella. I became one of the youngest in the state of California at that time and then 10 years later I had the privilege to become Mayor of the city.

Any stories from your childhood that you feel that changed you?

Oh yeah, absolutely! I had a very complexed childhood, I was raised by my farmworker grandparents. My mom is schizophrenic bipolar and so having to deal with mental health my father abandoned my brothers and I when we were 4 years old.  When you grow up with that environment you have all this types of experiences and I think it was all those experiences what made me who I am today.

Any fashion icons that inspire you?

Fashion icons? Hmmm, you know guys got to look good and I am a politician so I have to wear a suit. I sometime look at Calvin Klein but actually I am a Brooks Brother kind of guy, because it’s traditional but very trending.

Favorite designer?

Brook Brothers!

veneto4

What social network do you most use?

We are doing Facebook, but I like Twitter because you can get information across instantly.

Favorite fashion city?

Fashion city? I honestly thing Vegas right? I will have to say that Coachella has become a big fashion statement city so I am going with Coachella.

If you could go back to a specific time in your life what would it be?

I think the university life is always a fun environment because they aren’t a lot of constrains. You have the ability to challenge your thinking and learning abilities, expanding and being uncomfortable in your thoughts while in the college environment does a lot for your personal growth.  A learning environment where your mind is constantly in stimulation.

Would you encourage your children to take on your footsteps into politics?

I encourage not only my own but everyone’s particularly Latinos to get involve in understanding what’s occurring in their communities. At the local level what happens daily is what eventually forms a nation and once you understand it you are able to help with in.

veneto8

How do you see youth being involved with politics?

Youth and politics comes generationally. If you take a look at the youth movement in the 1960s and 1970s they were so engaged to social change from the women’s movement to the Latinos being able to vote. We are at a point where youth is finding their voice through social media and we are pushing issues that are important to everyone such as the coast of education, incarceration, employment and those are issues that are extremely important to the youth.

How do you see the revenue the youth is contributing to Coachella festival?

When you look at the city of Coachella the city benefits very little from it because the festival is not even in the city but on the border and the festival is in Indio. Palm Springs receives the most benefits because it has the hotels, restaurants, and bars people want to go to, what’s unique about Coachella right now is the brand, the name, the lifestyle. We got some projects that we are working on and because of the festival putting us on the map we are going to be able to benefit much more from it in the future.

Where do you see the festival going in the next 5 years?

The festival is right now around 100,000 people and it will grow into 125,000 people in the next five to six years. We are going to continue being the trend setters in the festival world. Coachella has always been the trend setter and I think we will continue to be.

What do you actually think about how people dress for the carnival?

I think it’s great any time you can play dress up, when you look at fashion every generation has a fashion story to tell. It’s kind of neat seeing the fashion statement our generation is making and obviously Coachella is part of it.

veneto30

veneto9

What would be the sound track of your life right now?

I am going to need some help with this one, I have to say that anything that talks about redemption. We all have a story and in my case a redemption song by Bob Marley.

How do you see the influence music has in fashion?

I think they are one in the same, we see artists trying to be fashion designers and designers trying to be musicians. I think what’s really interesting about music and fashion is that it actually represents what that precise generation is saying it really evokes what they’re feeling and expressing throughout lyrics, music and clothes.

Any message you would like to deliver to the younger crowed?

I’ve always found that when we are uncomfortable we grow more. Sometimes we’ve been thought to play it safe, not to challenge ourselves or sometimes we are just scared of being uncomfortable and that can be at work, in education or even in a relationship but is the vulnerabilities that makes us grow and learn. So to all my 20 something, all the hommies out here, the millennials which I am one of them:

Find strength and find comfort in being uncomfortable.

#HMBalmaination

The Balmain x H&M collection debuted on Tuesday October 20, 2015 on Wall Street, New York. Being the obsessive fashionita that I am I had the opportunity to attend the show and I must say the whole collection is to die for.

Kylie Jenner, Diane Kruger, Rosie Huntington-Whiteley, Alexa Chung and yours truly were among the guests who got an exclusive look at the glamorous, powerful and richly detailed collection designed by Balmain creative director Oliver Rousteing.

The night was full of magic as Rousteing’s designs brought fashion and music together to celebrate the collection in a futuristic subway station themed venue. The show featured models Gigi and Bella Hadid, Jourdan Dunn, Alessandra Ambrosio, Karlie Kloss and Joan Smalls to mention a few.

“Tonight is a dream come true for me. The energy and vibe is unbelievable, and to have the Backstreet Boys perform for Balmain x H&M is incredible. It is an honor for me to collaborate with H&M, and tonight’s launch is something that I will never forget “said Rousteing. Oh in did we will never forget that night and those clothes, the collection is a true reflection of what Balmian represents energy, positivity and glamour.

I am a lucky guy who got dibs and picked out some cool outfits to show you guys but the whole collection will be available in around 250 stores worldwide, as well as online starting November 5, 2015.

If I where you I’d start making a wish list…

Viva Baja

The reason why I’ve been so MIA on the blog the past month was due to a fun little trip I took. I had the privilege to visit Ensenada, Baja California Mexico. Everything was delightful from the food to the beach, the ocean the best things the city offers. My trip wouldn’t have been the same with out my lovely friends Andrea Maria from Dear Milano and Cassandra De La Vega from Gypsy Wings. We had an amazing time under the sun and enjoying the welcoming resort Estero Beach. Our adventures didn’t stop there we also had the amazing opportunity to visit La Ruta del Vino at El Valle De Guadalupe, which consists on a tour were you go wine tasting the different grapes and visiting the different wine production houses and actually see how the wine is being made. Of course after days enjoying the resort and city we wanted to extend our stay, Ensenada has a lot to offer. One day you can go the beach and get a great tan but by dinner you can go to El Valle De Guadalupe (1:00 hour drive from the city) and enjoy the best cousin accompanied with an exquisite wine.

Cheers.

Don’t forget to check us out at Elite Magazine were we talked and laughed about how we meet (my friends) each other.

Iam a ROCKSTUD

Something no men should go without is a biker leather jacket. You can be the typical bad boy or the brooding artist but a leather jacket is a must. In this outfit I am going a little more towards the bad boy look, pairing the leather jacket from The Kooples with a checkered shirt from J. Crew. The ripped jeans from H&M just added a more grunge look and gave the perfect vibe to accessories with the Valentino Rockstud Lock Bag; even though the mixture of colors I personally think that the poudre color gave an extra ambiance to the look. To continue on the grunge atmosphere the Nike Air Force 1 sneakers matched perfectly with my mirrored white/silver Dior reflected sunnies, all together creating the rock star of 2015.

Hunter Season

After yesterday’s snowy afternoon the streets of Manhattan woke up to a beautiful white day. The sun is up but the snow is all over the place so for today’s outfit I planned to use my black Hunter rain boots to help avoid or in my case jump on puddles of snow. The weather is nice so my reaped jeans from TopMan do the trick, on top I layered with my H&M denim shirt that matched perfectly with the jeans. Layering once more with a cream Lacoste V-neck sweater that blended perfectly with the amazing chocolate brown cape from Zara. To accessorize and complete the look for a fun snowy day my dark brown Ralph Lauren leather gloves went perfect with the ensemble. My brown leather aviators from Chloé gave the perfect touch to the whole look, besides with all that white snow working as reflectors I needed something to cover my eyes. On my arm candy I am wearing the amazing Breda watch with a brown strap but a gold and blue face matching perfectly with my gold Love de Cartier bracelet. Last but not least you guys know I am a sucker for hats so my camel brown fedora from Zadig & Voltaire was the perfect option for this denim/cream/brown look to take on the snowy streets of New York.

1984

Call me nostalgic but I miss waking up on a Monday morning and having to go to school. So todays outfit inspiration is based on my vintage varsity jacket from 1984. Staying in theme with the look I decided to accessorize with a Herschel black backpack and a cool pair of Sony headphones for those long subway rides. Under the jacket a gray H&M hoodie to keep me warm, my J. Crew plaid shirt wrapped around my waist and washed up torn jeans from TOPMAN did the trick. New York’s weather mood swings, a little snow here, a little storm there got me worried on what type of shoe to wear but you can never go wrong with Prada. My three tone oxford booties where the perfect element to complete my outfit giving me style, balance, and comfort when stumbling into puddles.

UWS

It’s officially autumn and like the leaves it’s time to change. New Yorkers are putting away all the summer clothes, dusting their coats but I refuse to let go of summer. For these look I am wear my H&M mustard (hey it’s a fall color) short shorts paired up with my Zara flower detailed shirt over a white Alexander Wang blazer giving the perfect look. Since mustard is a warm color it blends perfectly well with the white assembling a fall or summer look depending on the accessories. Not giving up on summer I whore my Nordstrom mirrored aviators to go with the sunny vibe, I am not ready for the winter and in New York winter seems eternal. Holding tight to summer, I might even end up on the East coast.

GRR…

After spotting the man bun all over #MBFW I decided to give it a try. Holding my hair in bun was the start to the whole outfit; wear my black unfitted size Givenchy dog tshirt with a pair of black ripped jeans from H&M was the perfect kick ass look. To accessorize my mirrored yellow aviators from Nordstrom and my Camper Together X Bernhard Willhelm sandals wear the perfect pop of color this black rock and roll look needed. My black Celine phantom bag was the essential piece and not for the reasons you think (jajaja) though I am obsessed with it the bag is the perfect size for this intense week. After all you might need a change of outfit!

Mr. Nieves

Any man can live in color – MR NIEVES dares to live in print.

Mr. Nieves

For my second day of #MBFW I wore this amazing print assemble from Mr. Nieves, an up and coming New Yorker designer that brought back his Puerto Rican roots. In his new collection we can see how colorful and perfectly tailored the pieces are. For this occasion I choose this black and white print top with a checkered pattern mix but the secret to not overdo it is by accessorizing wisely.  In this look I am wearing a Proenza Schouler PS11 bag in a light tone to blend in with the heavy print, for my feet a pair of white sneakers from H&M giving a perfect balance of tones to the look. In my ankle I am wearing a navy blue handkerchief as a bracelet just to have fun with a different accessory and of course as most of the time in my eyes my Ray Bans. The black wayfarers go perfectly with the fit of the matching pieces making my outfit look fresh and clean especially during those hot September days.

Print Mixing

TGIS and today’s weather is perfect for a pair of linen pants. Summer is coming to an end so it’s time to use all your summer outfits one last time. For today’s post I am wearing a tribal print linen pants from Zara that I actually bought last summer. I am mixing prints by accessorizing with my camouflage strappy sandals from Aldo my loyal companions through summer and even though they seem to clash the sand tone of the pants go perfectly with the dark orange army print. To keep it casual and with no more prints a black deep v neck long sleeve tshirt from H&M is the perfect combination to form a summer outfit. My phantom Céline bag just in case you need to put all your summer junk in and my black Wayfarer aviators from Ray Ban giving a relax and fresh vibe to my look.
