Top 5 places to eat in the Bay Area

You guys know that bloggers eat but when we do we do it with style.

So here are the Top 5 places to go if you are ever in the Bay Area.

#1  Cindy’s Backstreet Kitchen

Let me take to 137 Railroad Avenue, St. Helena, CA in a cute and quiet corner; Cindy’s Backstreet Kitchen. Rustic in tones of whites and blues the whole restaurant had this welcoming vibe yet chic atmosphere. A lovely patio welcomes you in and you have the choice of dinning under the sun or stars in my case, unfortunately it was a bit chilly so inside it was. Once inside it didn’t disappoint. Dark chocolate wood bar where you can have one (in my case two) of their delicious cocktails, welcoming large windows and black and white striped booths.

The two cocktails that you must try are the mojito monte and my personal favorite the Thai-gin-tini a mixture of gin, fresh squeezed lime juice and cayenne rim make it a hot drink of choice. We started with an Avocado and Papaya salad with an amazing dressing that is made from scratch with the papaya seed. I order the Pollo Loco with an avocado salsa and mouth-watering cheese stuffed Anaheim chile on the side, the roasted chicken was tender on the inside yet crispy on the outside having a battle between finishing it first than the black beans hot steaming soup serve with it. My friend had the Rabbit Tostada and being the fatty that I am, I had to try it and I must say it delivered. An enormous crispy tortilla with sweet and sour rabbit in a red chile salsa, black beans and fresh feta cheese. Last but not least since the lovely waiter told us it was the most talked about piece in the menu so we order a Campfire Pie or a s’mores on steroids, a huge roasted marshmallow fluff, creamy fudgy chocolate and breath-taking Oreo cookie crust, on bite and you where in cookie heaven. The whole experience was lovely great service and excellent food. The crowed was welcoming and polite this is definitely a must when ever you’re traveling around Napa Valley.

#2 Uno Dos Tacos

Need some drinks after work with the buddies? Lets go to 595 Market Street, San Francisco CA. A real Mexican place where you can eat real T A C O S! Yes real mexican tacos with chef’s Luis Flores’ family tradition from Guadalajara Jalisco in Mexico. The food is amazing the drinks are amazing Uno Dos Tacos is the perfect place to chill relax and have a beer or two (no one is judging). Remember to start your pre gaming here because it closes at 9 pm during weekdays and 10 pm on the weekends.

#3 Nourish Cafe

Want to be healthy and even go vegan for a day? Well Nourish Cafe is your best option located on 189 6th Avenue in the Richmond District a small but very cute place to relax and boost up your strength with a smoothie or bowl of greens.

#4 Lolinda

Hungry for steak? Let me take you to 2518 Mission St. for a traditional yet hip Argentinian steak house. The dark light and sand wood ambience to the restaurant gives a more authentic aesthetic that makes it an it spot for dates, dinner, or simply a cool drink by any of the two bars they have.

#5 El Techo

Roof toping on happy hour doesn’t get cooler than El Techo located 2516 Mission St. The young crowd is energetic and the drinks are so refreshing you wouldn’t want to miss them for there $7.oo dlls margaritas. Amazing street food, a view of San Fran, and trendy cocktails what more can you ask for?

After all the food talk I just got a little hungry starting to think I might go back to San Fran just for the food… AMAZING!

#HMBalmaination

The Balmain x H&M collection debuted on Tuesday October 20, 2015 on Wall Street, New York. Being the obsessive fashionita that I am I had the opportunity to attend the show and I must say the whole collection is to die for.

Kylie Jenner, Diane Kruger, Rosie Huntington-Whiteley, Alexa Chung and yours truly were among the guests who got an exclusive look at the glamorous, powerful and richly detailed collection designed by Balmain creative director Oliver Rousteing.

The night was full of magic as Rousteing’s designs brought fashion and music together to celebrate the collection in a futuristic subway station themed venue. The show featured models Gigi and Bella Hadid, Jourdan Dunn, Alessandra Ambrosio, Karlie Kloss and Joan Smalls to mention a few.

“Tonight is a dream come true for me. The energy and vibe is unbelievable, and to have the Backstreet Boys perform for Balmain x H&M is incredible. It is an honor for me to collaborate with H&M, and tonight’s launch is something that I will never forget “said Rousteing. Oh in did we will never forget that night and those clothes, the collection is a true reflection of what Balmian represents energy, positivity and glamour.

I am a lucky guy who got dibs and picked out some cool outfits to show you guys but the whole collection will be available in around 250 stores worldwide, as well as online starting November 5, 2015.

If I where you I’d start making a wish list…

Photographers on one side fashionitas on the other and street style are the pictures of choice when it comes to Fashion Week.

How can I start to explain how the most important week of the season for fashionitas all over the world works? Between backstage and front rows here are 10 rules every one should follow in order to keep and maintain your cool on the seasons most hectic yet glamorous week.

#1. Sunshine is a big spot on you. It shows all the mistakes. (AVOID at all coats cheap fabrics, ruined accessories, and dirty shoes)

#2. Don’t match clothes and its own function. Like rain and trenchcoat or snow and moonboot, FORGET IT leave the umbrella at home!

#3. Be careful with black. DON’T put together different tones of black; materials reflect the black in different ways.

#4. Wear just nightclothes in daytime. It is UNEXPECTED!

#5. DON’T carry big bags. (On the front row they hinder the passage)

#6. ALWAYS check the weather. Clothes live in the best context.

#7. SHAPE UP! You must choose outfits fierce and fully shaped.

#8. Pay attention de DETAIL. Even if you think people aren’t watching, a good ACCESSORY is worth a thousand words.

#9. EXPIREMENT! Fashion Week is the time of the season you can dress up and none of the others can say anything about it.

#10. CONFIDENCE and a SMILE are a MUST! No matter how tired you are or how crazy you’ve looked when fighting for your cab confidence and smiles are only here to enhance you wardrobe of choice.

Overalls 101:

In case you didn’t get the memo, overalls are back, and they have been for a while. Not only is it this trend from the 80’s and 90’s insanely comfortable, but they are also practical and incredibly stylish. Bib overalls were, and still are the everyday apparel for some people. They were perceived as a uniform for the working masses, especially those in agriculture. And are perhaps the most versatile of transition items by allowing you to show others that you have something cool going on, whether it’s a layer underneath, or on top of them. Either way it’s pure genius.

Farmers, who really had it down before any of us, originally used them but the denim all-in-one really exploded when Princess Diana embraced it. Lately, luxury denim brands and designers are interpreting the overall in covetable iterations that will banish the words, “she could be a farmer in those clothes”, from any association with the look.

Now that overalls are popping up everywhere again, it seems like few people know how to wear them without looking like they just came from a farm. While sporting a denim onesie seems pretty foolproof (after all, everything matches with denim), figuring out the right shirt, shoes and accessories to pair with your overalls is an art form.

Here are 4 tips to help you look great in your favorite childhood trend:

  1. Leave the plaid at home: For real. This is one instance when wearing a flannel is not okay, unless you’ve been driving a tractor all day.
  1. Stripes, however, are an almost guaranteed home run: Channel your inner sailor with a blue-and-white striped shirt and you’ll look adorable, I promise.
  1. Fit is key: If you have a longer or shorter torso, try and find a pair of overalls with adjustable straps, so there is no gapping (or pulling) in the crotch area.
  1. Believe in yourself: No matter what trend you want to jump on as long as you wear it confident there is no look you cant rock and if you add a dazzling smile you’ve hit the ball out of the park!

The Maidstone

Take the Long Island Expressway and head east; Destination: Hamptons. The lonely winter streets of this getaway transforms in the summer to host a plethora of individuals trying to experience what New Yorkers call home for the summer. Think Park Avenue but with tennis whites and ban de soleil. The Hamptons has already established itself to be the vacation spot of the creme de la creme and the very expensive zip code hosts the summer houses of many celebrities and socialites. Let me take you to 207 Main street East Hampton, New York. A fabulous Scandinavian lifestyle hotel with a structure dating back to the 17th century. This hotel was first used as an Inn in the mid 20’s welcoming the powerful and elite making it a fashionable destination and THE summer spot.  It was bought in 2008 by a Swedish hotelier Mrs. Jenny Ljungberg, and shortly after the purchase it became an iconic must see.

I had the prestigious opportunity to rest my new york fatigued self for a short weekend and I can assure you of its marvel. It took you back to this great Gatsby era where luxury and socializing replaced daily calorie intake. The hotel promotes an atmosphere of comfortability with a dose of youth.  My assertion: the hotel oozes an ambience of champagne, tiaras and meditation. Their eco friendly environment makes up the fabric of this location with a Natura water filtration system that recycles and reuses the water intake. The fabulous  kitchen and housekeeping staff also utilize 100% organic cleaning products to minimize the harm done to our delicate eco system. They encourage the use of green forms of transport including their collection of Kronan red bicycles available to guests, free of charge.

To synchronize with the hotel and the summer Hampton’s vibe I decided to do a very preppy look. Here I’m  wearing my mint trousers from Ted Baker paired with a simple white button down white shirt from American Apparel. On top of the shirt giving a very Chuck Bass playing croquet kind of look my vest sweater from Burberry that actually has royal blue and mint strips on the v cut of the sweater. Matching perfectly with the tones were my 80’s inspired sunnies from Oliver Peoples to keep me from those hot summer rays out of my sight. Last but not least, the Louis Vuitton school clutch with a attention catcher chocolate color scheme and my brown leather Birkenstock was  a match made in Hamptons heaven.

All in all c/o The Maidestone is not a stop along the way; it’s a destination so if you ever go to the Hamptons don’t hesitate and take a sunbath in their fabulous garden with a glass of bellini or two ( or three definitely stop counting after two).

Mesh it up

New York’s weather is a disaster right now, it’s so hot and humid that the fashionistas are having trouble turning sweat into a trend. And, now that your’s truly has to stay on the Island working all summer, I came up with a couple of ideas to keep you looking stylish, while not boiling with hot layers. For this look, I would say I went a little over the top with a mesh sweater from Forever21. From the moment I first laid eyes on it, I knew it would be a fun little experiment to see how I would eventually style it. I decided to use this mesh sweater that is 100% polyester because its made up of noncellulosic fibers. Petroleum, coal, natural gas, air and water are used to make this fibers. Meaning that chemist working in laboratories produce various combinations of carbon, hydrogen, nitrogen and oxygen to create many of the fabrics we use today. Here, you can see how I layered it with a basic t-shirt from HB designs (a close friend from back home in Mexico) of #Karlito. Considering that the weather is hot as heck, I had no other option than to show some leg with these short shorts from Zara. Keeping the look very minimal with black and white tones. I accessorized with my white and silver Dior reflective sunnies, my Chanel boy bag, and my Fendi key chain of #Karlito that matches the outfit perfectly. On my feet I played it colorful and added my Bernhard Willhelm x Camper color block sandals, just to add a little summer vibe to the whole black and white look. Remember, if it’s hot, mesh it up to look avant-garde, even though the sun is burning your scalp, lol.

#VenetoNYFWM

The first Men’s fashion week took off this year with the Spring/Summer 2016 collections at Skylight Clarkson Square. A week that has been long overdue in New York that while somewhat less hectic than the women’s fashion week, is still as organized and supported. The designers and show-goers set the tone with pops of red and royal blue, stripes, crazy/fun prints and relaxed fits. Over 40 designers showcased their work this year, and these are some of the shows that spoke to my personal style the most.

Theory is a brand know for it’s minimalistic and clean esthetic, was as clean cut as always. The show was on the rooftop of the Theory headquarters in the Meatpacking District, which made it a unique experience while adding a touch of the minimalism of the brand. There was also an undertone of androgyny with the addition of women modeling mens clothing. The theme was relaxed fit formal wear, with black, brown, and grey tones. Then, on the opposite end of the spectrum we have Nautica’s show, which was mainly swimwear, with varying lengths and styles. They showcased lots of stripes, solids and some prints as well as having summer knits and light raincoats.

Parke and Ronen also had a lot of swimwear and beachwear, mainly tank tops, mid length swim trunks and speedos. Although, their headbands, short sleeve button ups, and printed bomber jackets have to be the highlight of their show for me. They also featured lots of stripes and cool prints. Last but definitely not least, Ricardo Seco, whom is a Mexican designer, featured some of the brightest prints of the week (La Loteria). He had matching print ensembles, short sleeve button ups, summer bomber jackets and some swimwear as well.

All in all, I have to say this was an amazing first New York Fashion Week: Men’s. This experience was extremely personal to me and I am so happy I got to be a part of it. I am very grateful to all the designers and supporters who collaborated to make this happen, and I can’t wait for the next NYFWM!
