House of Hatters

Growing up I always saw my dad wearing hats, he was my very own Indiana Jones. Being the biggest Indy fan I am, I always stole his hats when playing dress up. Twenty years later playing dress up is still my favorite thing, and well when playing dress up I get to wear Indy’s hats- that’s just a plus. Ever since I saw pictures of the eclectic art installations up at Salvation Mountain I had dreamt of taking fun pictures there. This past weekend my sister and I decided we needed a road trip- a little R&R, TLC- we just needed a destination and soon enough Salvation Mountain was on the GPS and Queen Bee was blaring on the car speakers. Just thinking about my outfits was enough to give me a natural high, but my most treasured acquisitions were my new House of Hatters hats. Nicolas, my precious new black hat baby, what on earth can I say that you can’t already see? I wanted a fresh perspective on men’s athleisure, ergo my black tracksuit brought to a new level with Nicolas’ classic yet modern style.

Then I present to the world Hugo, oh Hugo what funky combination you are for a hat. Notice the turquoise stone paired with the brown leather and feather. I never thought I would be wearing a stone on my head- on my neck yes, on my hands hell yes, but I have to give it up to House of Hatters for making the impossible possible. Yes, Hugo effortless style in a beige color will quickly become your go to as you leave the house.

Oh Leo, come back- we both fit in this door. Leonardo, just like Leo DiCaprio, a classic yet yummy surprise. This navy and seemingly conservative hat is anything but that. Take note of the darling “muñequita” (mexican doll, for all those out there who are not familiar with the term), I named her Rose, or Rosa in keeping with the hat’s theme. I like to think that these two love birds will never sink out of style.

Talking about Rosa, the spanish word for pink, it brings me to my personal new love Isabella. Isabella is feminine yet outrageously out there with its natural white striped pheasant feather. Yes, I have no shame in admitting that I do look Pretty in Pink. It’s odd to acknowledge a time in my life when I thought being boy prohibited me from wearing pink, but did you know that when I was a toddler and had to pick out construction paper I would always choose pink- you could say, it was written since the beginning and my love affair with Isabella has been years in the making. Yes, Isabella my love, I wear pink now every chance I get. I didn’t choose the pink life, it chose me.

After all that exploring at Salvation Mountain and fighting off other bloggers for the perfect shot. We stopped at my favorite all time destination, In-N-Out. I mean can you even have a road trip in California without In-N-Out? I don’t know and I hope I never do. Ian’s forest green simplicity yet delightful green bow make me crave style perfection every time I see it. Which is why House of Hatter’s is now my number one go-to for stylish yet affordable hats. They strive to make your hat buying experience as easy and fun as possible, which is why there hats are one size fits all. But you may be wondering how is that, after all heads come in all shapes and sizes. Well, their hats feature a unique design hidden within their interior, to make your hat size 100% customizable without sacrificing the hat’s form. They are all handcrafted goods with natural unique imperfections. House of Hatter’s promises- no two hats are the same.

I am back New York ❤️

I was trying to explain my job as a digital influencer and someone at the table mentioned being like Demi Moore’s movie “The Joneses”. In the movie the family persuades the whole neighborhood into a perfect material life that doesn’t exist.

That got me thinking…

Is designer bags all you see in me? Am I only lurking you into believing that a perfect life exists?

Sorry to break it to you but my life isn’t perfect. I constantly fear the instability of a digital job. The daily struggle between family, friends and work. A different profession where new information is being delivered daily. And of course the competition of wanting to keep up.

I just really hope you find more in my words and pictures than fancy clothes. I hope that I am able to inspire your own truth. To believe in yourselves, break boundaries, stereotypes, and above all to believe in the power of your dreams when you work hard for them.

No one is perfect but in that effort to achieve perfection you will find your own best. And that is quite alright.

With love,

Neto

Neto

How did your career begin?

It all Started when I was 20 years old, I was interning for The Riverside County Board of Supervisors at that time.  I was going to UC Riverside and finishing up my degree in English and Political Science and my typical conversations would end up being about politics and changes that needed to happen in Coachella. I graduated and ran for office, I was 23 years old when I got elected here in the city of Coachella. I became one of the youngest in the state of California at that time and then 10 years later I had the privilege to become Mayor of the city.

Any stories from your childhood that you feel that changed you?

Oh yeah, absolutely! I had a very complexed childhood, I was raised by my farmworker grandparents. My mom is schizophrenic bipolar and so having to deal with mental health my father abandoned my brothers and I when we were 4 years old.  When you grow up with that environment you have all this types of experiences and I think it was all those experiences what made me who I am today.

Any fashion icons that inspire you?

Fashion icons? Hmmm, you know guys got to look good and I am a politician so I have to wear a suit. I sometime look at Calvin Klein but actually I am a Brooks Brother kind of guy, because it’s traditional but very trending.

Favorite designer?

Brook Brothers!

veneto4

What social network do you most use?

We are doing Facebook, but I like Twitter because you can get information across instantly.

Favorite fashion city?

Fashion city? I honestly thing Vegas right? I will have to say that Coachella has become a big fashion statement city so I am going with Coachella.

If you could go back to a specific time in your life what would it be?

I think the university life is always a fun environment because they aren’t a lot of constrains. You have the ability to challenge your thinking and learning abilities, expanding and being uncomfortable in your thoughts while in the college environment does a lot for your personal growth.  A learning environment where your mind is constantly in stimulation.

Would you encourage your children to take on your footsteps into politics?

I encourage not only my own but everyone’s particularly Latinos to get involve in understanding what’s occurring in their communities. At the local level what happens daily is what eventually forms a nation and once you understand it you are able to help with in.

veneto8

How do you see youth being involved with politics?

Youth and politics comes generationally. If you take a look at the youth movement in the 1960s and 1970s they were so engaged to social change from the women’s movement to the Latinos being able to vote. We are at a point where youth is finding their voice through social media and we are pushing issues that are important to everyone such as the coast of education, incarceration, employment and those are issues that are extremely important to the youth.

How do you see the revenue the youth is contributing to Coachella festival?

When you look at the city of Coachella the city benefits very little from it because the festival is not even in the city but on the border and the festival is in Indio. Palm Springs receives the most benefits because it has the hotels, restaurants, and bars people want to go to, what’s unique about Coachella right now is the brand, the name, the lifestyle. We got some projects that we are working on and because of the festival putting us on the map we are going to be able to benefit much more from it in the future.

Where do you see the festival going in the next 5 years?

The festival is right now around 100,000 people and it will grow into 125,000 people in the next five to six years. We are going to continue being the trend setters in the festival world. Coachella has always been the trend setter and I think we will continue to be.

What do you actually think about how people dress for the carnival?

I think it’s great any time you can play dress up, when you look at fashion every generation has a fashion story to tell. It’s kind of neat seeing the fashion statement our generation is making and obviously Coachella is part of it.

veneto30

veneto9

What would be the sound track of your life right now?

I am going to need some help with this one, I have to say that anything that talks about redemption. We all have a story and in my case a redemption song by Bob Marley.

How do you see the influence music has in fashion?

I think they are one in the same, we see artists trying to be fashion designers and designers trying to be musicians. I think what’s really interesting about music and fashion is that it actually represents what that precise generation is saying it really evokes what they’re feeling and expressing throughout lyrics, music and clothes.

Any message you would like to deliver to the younger crowed?

I’ve always found that when we are uncomfortable we grow more. Sometimes we’ve been thought to play it safe, not to challenge ourselves or sometimes we are just scared of being uncomfortable and that can be at work, in education or even in a relationship but is the vulnerabilities that makes us grow and learn. So to all my 20 something, all the hommies out here, the millennials which I am one of them:

Find strength and find comfort in being uncomfortable.

Photographers on one side fashionitas on the other and street style are the pictures of choice when it comes to Fashion Week.

How can I start to explain how the most important week of the season for fashionitas all over the world works? Between backstage and front rows here are 10 rules every one should follow in order to keep and maintain your cool on the seasons most hectic yet glamorous week.

#1. Sunshine is a big spot on you. It shows all the mistakes. (AVOID at all coats cheap fabrics, ruined accessories, and dirty shoes)

#2. Don’t match clothes and its own function. Like rain and trenchcoat or snow and moonboot, FORGET IT leave the umbrella at home!

#3. Be careful with black. DON’T put together different tones of black; materials reflect the black in different ways.

#4. Wear just nightclothes in daytime. It is UNEXPECTED!

#5. DON’T carry big bags. (On the front row they hinder the passage)

#6. ALWAYS check the weather. Clothes live in the best context.

#7. SHAPE UP! You must choose outfits fierce and fully shaped.

#8. Pay attention de DETAIL. Even if you think people aren’t watching, a good ACCESSORY is worth a thousand words.

#9. EXPIREMENT! Fashion Week is the time of the season you can dress up and none of the others can say anything about it.

#10. CONFIDENCE and a SMILE are a MUST! No matter how tired you are or how crazy you’ve looked when fighting for your cab confidence and smiles are only here to enhance you wardrobe of choice.

It’s all about the blues…

It’s definitely starting to feel like spring here in the city. After a harsh winter, New Yorkers can finally stop layering and dress a little more cheerful. For this look I am wearing top, bottom, and coat by Mr. Nieves New York all in blue tones with the most interesting patterns. I am wearing black thick-framed Kaibosh sunnies to protect me from the strong rays of the sun; we so happily are gasping in. To continue in the tones of blue I decided to wear Rain Man blue boots because the weather channel said we would have a few drops here and there. You know what they say “its better to be safe then sorry”. Last but definitely not least my Chanel graffiti backpack was the perfect accessory my outfit needed, mixing in the tones of grey and blue popping out perfectly.

1984

Call me nostalgic but I miss waking up on a Monday morning and having to go to school. So todays outfit inspiration is based on my vintage varsity jacket from 1984. Staying in theme with the look I decided to accessorize with a Herschel black backpack and a cool pair of Sony headphones for those long subway rides. Under the jacket a gray H&M hoodie to keep me warm, my J. Crew plaid shirt wrapped around my waist and washed up torn jeans from TOPMAN did the trick. New York’s weather mood swings, a little snow here, a little storm there got me worried on what type of shoe to wear but you can never go wrong with Prada. My three tone oxford booties where the perfect element to complete my outfit giving me style, balance, and comfort when stumbling into puddles.

Crop it up

So its official the #AlexanderwangxHM collection is sold out but I was lucky to snitch a couple of pieces that obviously amazed us all. Here I am wearing the black scuba neoprene crop top with a white Calvin Klein dress shirt underneath. Ripped black jeans (by me) from Joe Fresh where the perfect match making the look very grunge and relaxed. My high rise sneakers from Sandro made the perfect statement of making the whole outfit out of black and white pieces. To accessorize a black coat that came in handy if the weather of Manhattan decided to change on us again, a camel felt hat for The Hatter Company and a 3.1 Phillip Lim colorful fur clutch. Emphasizing on making the hat and clutch stand out from the achromatic color scheme of the outfit worked pretty good, balanced and gave a little pop to the look.

All Black Sunday

Despite Manhattans´ weather mood swings today was a very pleasant day. The sun was shining but a cool breeze moved my locks out of place (jajaaj) for today’s look I went all black, wearing my Zara black t shirt paired with black trousers from Helmut Lang. To accessorize and give it a more relax vibe to an all black look I paired it up with my white Keds and a furry clutch from 3.1 Phillip Lim. What to make the look more formal? Change the shoes for black dress shoes and either add a blazer or a leather jacket and voila!!

You can change the whole look of you outfit just by accessorizing the right way.

Should I?

A simple v neck t-shirt is now an essential piece in every closet and following today’s trends, the quoted t-shirts look like they might stay for a while. For this relaxed look I wore my Zadig and Voltaire #ISHOULDHAVEBEENACOWBOY t-shirt and pair it with my black skinny jeans from Joe Fresh. To accessories the outfit and give it a little color my Camper Together X Bernhard Willhelm sandals. For my head lest play a little with the quote a black straw panama fedora hat from Paul Smith as if it had a little cowboy look to it (jajaja not really) my Valentino orange camouflage wallet and to protect me from the sun my black wayfarer sunglasses from Ray-Ban. Making my outfit look effortless, comfortable, and fresh for the nice weather New York has given us this past couple of days!!
